Oshana

Giving Syrian refugee women in Lebanon a dignified income, a supportive community, and a creative outlet for trauma - through embroidery and crochet.

We are working with over 60 refugee women in Lebanon through our project Oshana. Women meet several times a week in our centre to sew, sing and share stories. They are paid a crucial wage for the beautiful things they create, but moreover, this is a transformative mental health project. Crochet and embroidery offer craft therapy, and the women find solace from listening and supporting each other.

Through Oshana, women whose lives have been ripped apart by war start sewing them together again, one stitch at a time.

“I love making things that are beautiful and will be useful to someone, and I love that it is a way of emptying the stress out of your body. When we work, we forget a little the crises that we went through. And through this work we get to meet other women - we meet, sing and laugh and produce beautiful things.” - Oshana artisan Faten
